July Prayer Letter

God is always opening new doors of ministry opportunity!  A lady in our church will be having her wedding soon.  Having been told that they have never done bridal showers before, I invited several of the church ladies to my house for a bridal shower.  I was surprised as 17 ladies came and they enjoyed a time of fellowship, games, prizes, a devotion, and food.  They left talking about the things they had enjoyed and how they had learned so much from the devotion.  Many asked if we could have a ladies fellowship more often.  We will be working on plans to start a bimonthly ladies meeting as an opportunity for our church ladies to get to know each other better and learn from God’s Word.
I stayed with another missionary couple, Ole and Renee Konnerup while I was down in Nairobi getting my car fixed.  During that time with them, I had the opportunity to visit one of their churches.  The church was located just inside Kibera, which is the biggest slum in Kenya.  It is said there are over a million people that live in this slum in houses made of mud, boxes, plastic and metal with open sewer flowing between the houses.  That day there were so many people we had to carry the church benches outside where we had the service under the hot African sun.  There are so many children in their church and in the slum area!  I am praying that the Lord might give me another opportunity to go back and invest in the lives of those children.
Pray for us as we have camps, Vacation Bible Schools, teacher trainings, and ladies meetings coming up.  I mentioned in my last letter that each missionary in Kenya is now required to pay quarterly taxes based on their support from the states.  This new tax depletes a large portion of my monthly funds required for living on the field.  Pray with me for 6 new churches for support so I won’t incur the expense of returning to the States to raise more support.  Your prayers and faithful support are greatly appreciated!
